How to Prosper in Your Work

| October 29, 2012

Do you wish to have the Midas touch in all that you do? Wouldn’t it be awesome if everything you touched turned to ‘gold’?

Actually the Bible does give a very straight-forward (not necessarily simple) formula in order to abound in all the work that you do. It is found in Deuteronomy 36 and the formula is infact repeated several times in that chapter alone!

(2) and when you and your children return to the Lord your God and obey Him with all your heart and with all your soul according to everything I command you today,
(3) then the Lord God will restore your fortunes and have compassion on you and gather you again from all the nations where he scattered you.
(4) Even if you have been banished to the most distant land under the heavens, from there the Lord your God will gather you and bring you back.
(5) He will bring you to the land that belonged to your ancestors, and you will take possession of it. He will make you more prosperous and numerous than your ancestors.

(8) You will again obey the Lord and follow all his commands I am giving you today.
(9) Then the Lord your God will make you most prosperous in all the work of your hands and in the fruit of your womb, the young of your livestock and the crops of your land. The Lord will again delight in you and make you prosperous, just as he delighted in your ancestors,
(10) if you obey the Lord your God and keep his commands and decrees that are written in this Book of the Law and turn to the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul.
(15) See, I set before you today life and prosperity, death and destruction.
(16) For I command you today to love the Lord your God, to walk in obedience to Him, and to keep his commands, decrees and laws; then you will live and increase, and the Lord your God will bless you in the land you are entering to possess.
(19) This day I call the heavens and the earth as witnesses against you that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live
(20) and that you may love the Lord your God, listen to his voice, and hold fast to him. For the Lord is your life, and he will you many years in the land he swore to give to your fathers, Abraham, Issac and Jacob.
– Deut 30

Think if you read the passage carefully, you don’t need anyone to tell you what you need to do in order to be in the place for God to bless you. It was repeated at least 4 times in this chapter alone!

1) Love the Lord your God
2) Obey His commandments

Can it be any less obvious and clear than this? Deuteronomy has made it as plain and as simple for us to understand. And the fact that it is repeated so many times, should tell us very loudly that this is important and we must listen! When we love the Lord and obey His commands, He has promised to bless the work of our hands and prosper us. So if things are not going right with you, it is time to search your soul and see if you are doing these 2 things. When we do that, God promises to lead us into the land flowing with milk and honey!

About the Author ()

I have been a follower of Christ for more than 20 years now. Started from a Methodist church, then went on to a few charasmatic churches and again back to a Methodist church now. Thus I have experienced and seen a wide flavor of different denominations. Personally, I consider myself non-denominational as I can worship in many different styles. The important thing is that I follow the gospel and love Jesus. I am currently serving as a musician and a worship leader in my church. I believe that my calling is to help others enter into the presence of God through worship. I also enjoy teaching and discipling other believers, which is the main reason why this site was started. I hope to find other believers to join me in this cause to reach out and encourage other believers.

I feel sort of like I’m calling into a radio talk show, Long time linteser, first time caller. I’ve been following this blog for sometime but have never commented. I think I may fall into the category of Yes, gifted, but now is not the right time . I’ve poised this question to several of those close to me, and their answers always scare me. I want them to tell me no, I don’t see you doing anything like that. But it’s always the opposite, yes, I’ve thought that about you for a long time. I think deep within me that shared feeling has been there, but it scares the daylight out of me. I’ve been a part of God’s good work before, where He took something small and created something huge with it. One might think that you’re ego would be huge too, but it’s actually a very humbling and an awesome feeling to know that God took your mustard seed and did great things with it.If someone has this pull, what are some thoughts on how to get trained/mentored/equiped to take steps forward?
